A wonderful gift
For my birthday in October I received the most precious and thoughtful gift from my Aunt. This sewing box/organizer was made by my Grandfather in 1949 while he was in school, to be a carpenter. He worked his whole life as a carpenter, making amazing furniture as well as doors and windows in the traditional Norwegian style. He actually made the paneling in the Bakery at the Norway Pavilion at EPCOT as well. I always loved to get into this sewing box at my Grandfathers house when I was little. There were so many wonderful treasures in it, old buttons, yarn, patterns and everything you can imagine. When my Grandfather passed away in '92 my Aunt inherited the sewing box, and now she has passed it on to me- I am so honoured and proud. It will be filled with wonderful treasures, yarn and projects in progress (you might see the bag from Leanne's class there), and some socks I am working on for my brothers national costume, or "bunad".
Thank you so much Aunt T!
And for all of you- have a wonderful weekend. We will be off to the cabin with my parents this afternoon, it will be great to spend some quality time up there. I will be back with pictures on Monday :) Take care.

What a beautiful gift from your Aunt. The sewing box is magnificent. I would love to look for the paneling you described on my next visit to Epcot so please tell me where to look. I think on my recent visit there I missed the bakery.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful gift. Family heirlooms are such a treasure. My grandmother gave me a handpieced top of a Grandmother's Flower Garden. I am a tad intimidated to have to do the quilting, but I am so touched she gave it to me.
