Norgesglass

That's what these jam jars are called, or "Norway jars" in English. They are commonly used to store jam and preserves, and go way back, I'm not even sure how old they are, I only know I'm not able to find them anywhere to buy anymore, so my dear mom gave me a few of hers. The reason they are called Norgesglass, is that "Norway" is written in the glass itself, and on the original glass lid. In a great book Lappesaker by Trine T. Bakke, she had made these cute pincushions on the lid, and I just had to try. I think I will make the next ones with a smaller mid square, this was 1 1/2".

Now DD and I are on our way to Oslo. She has her annual checkup with her asthma/allergy specialist tomorrow morning, and then we're off to a wholesaler to buy fabric! (She's not sad at all about loosing a day at school...)

Have a fantasic week everyone :)

  8. I have a bunch of these glass jars - they don't say Norway - but I have stored buttons in them for years. Never thought of doing patchwork in the opening.

  9. Here in the UK we call these Kilner jars and I have a stack of them with their metal lids in our garage left over from my MIL having a clear out when she stopped preserving the plums from her garden in them - guess what mine will become? You can still buy them in the UK but the modern ones come with red plastic lids instead
