A test of patience....

Hello. I wanted to show you what I have been working on for the last weeks.... This embroidery will be on Kristine's "bunadshirt". The shirt that is a part of the regional national costume. The bunad is sewn like they did waaayyyy back when- without a sewing machine, and let me tell you, this white on white linen embroidery is a test of my patience! Oh how I miss my sewing machine... it seems every free minute is spent embroidering this shirt. Now almost all the embroidery is done, and I am about to start assembling all the parts- by hand... (there is a little bit by machine, but that is microscopic...) But to my surprise I am really enjoying this slow work, and it feels good to know that Kristine will cherish her national costume for many many years.
Here are the finished parts, now tomorrow at the class I will start to assemble the sleeves. Stay tuned.
I hope you like the new look on my blog, I am having fun playing with the template, so it might change again soon....
Thank you for stopping by!

  1. Så flink du er! Jeg skal montere bunadskjorter jeg også. Rogaland.

  8. That is lovely. Very lovely. My weaving guild just had a show & tell day where people brought there textiles they had from around the globe and there were some really stunning costumes. A lot of family treasures, some funny things picked up on trips and treks.
But the embroidery that was so prevalent in clothing was so beautifully executed. It makes me sad for my really boring jeans and t-shirt LOL
Again, that work is really lovely.

  9. Oh, this looks wonderful! A lot of work, but it will be soooo worth it! Kristine will be so pleased with this and able to enjoy it for life - and know that for her to know you have done it makes this even more special! My bunad was a joint project by several of the women in the family, and it makes it so special :o)

My mum is at the moment embroydering suspenders for my dad's Askerbunad, and it is heaps of work - tiny stitches with heavy wool thread. I have promised to help finish them, and not really looking forward to it ;o)
